[Classes 44 and 89 (ii)] A hook has teeth 7, Fig. 1, engaging teeth 4 on a pinion 5, and is so shaped that as the pinion is turned to cause full engagement the parts carrying the hook and pinion are drawn together The part 7a embraces about half the pinion leaving the first tooth 7<1> still in contact. In a modification the pinion is replaced by an eccentric 5, Fig. 4, that the hook embraces at 7a being formed with a projection 7. The hook and eccentric may have interengaging flutes or serrations. In a further form the projection 7 has a square shoulder engaging a corresponding projection on the eccentric. Application to large operational elements and to pontoons is mentioned.
