Abstract
Tetrakis-2-chloroethyl silicate is prepared by treating silicon tetrachloride with ethylene oxide under the influence of heat, preferably in the presence of an acid catalyst. In examples: (1) ethylene oxide is passed slowly into a flask containing silicon tetrachloride, which is kept refluxing. After 15 hours when no more reflux takes place, the heat is removed and the stream of ethylene oxide continued for another 15 hours. The product is finally fractionally distilled; (2) as in example (1) using slightly varying experimental conditions.
