Abstract

576,935. Cavity walls. HEMS, H. Aug. 4, 1944, No. 14913. [Class 20 (iv)] A cavity wall is contructed by attaching outer blocks 14 and inner blocks 18 to the opposite sides of the spaced pillars 10 by means of the saddle like straps 11. The straps 11 are formed with a channel portion 12, which grips the pillar, two wing portions 13 to which the outer blocks are bolted, and an outstanding stud 17 which passes through a hole in the inner block and secures it to the pillar by the nut 20. The blocks are recessed to accommodate the pillar, the channel portion of the strap and also the heads of the bolts and the nuts. At the corner the inner blocks are mitred at 32 and provided with projections 33 which engage the wing portions 25 of the special corner straps 23, whose central angle-section portion 24 engages the pillar 10. The outer blocks are bolted as before with the distance pieces 34 between them and the strap wings. Spring washers 21 may be inserted between the blocks and the wings.
