Abstract

576,542. Filters. KEENE, E. W. W. March 1, 1944, No. 3802. [Class 46] [Also in Group XXVIII] A filter for liquids or gases comprises a number of flat perforated tubes 14, each of which is split with the split ends turned inwardly to grip resiliently a strip 15 of filtering material surrounding the tube. The tubes are held at the ends in slots formed in plates 13, 16 which are enclosed in a casing 11. The slots in the lower plate are smaller than those in the upper plate and the tubes with the filtering material are compressed in these slots by means of a tightening bolt 17 and nut 18. Fluid to be filtered enters through an opening 22, passes through the tube 12 and through the filter tubes 14, being discharged through an outlet 23. The perforations in the tubes 14 are formed by punching the sides to form teeth which project inwardly to space the sides apart. Two tubes may be used together one inside the other. The tubes may be made of glass, metal or plastic material. The filtering material may be made from fibre, paper sheets, woven metal or glass. In the case of woven metal it may be pre-coated with asbestos, cotton'lints, kapok, kieselguhr or diatomaceous earth.
