Abstract
575,669. Catalytic agents. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 22, 1942, No. 13363. Convention date, Sept 26, 1941. [Class 1 (i)] A solid porous contact mass for effecting reaction between silicon and a hydrocarbon halide is made by firing in a reducing atmosphere a moulded mixture of silicon and a metallic catalyst, and cooling the mass in a non-oxidising atmosphere. In an example a mass comprising 2 to 45 per cent. of powdered copper and the remainder silicon is fired at 700-1060‹C. Specifications 575,667 and 575,668, [both in Group IV], are referred to.
