555,861. Isomerizing hydrocarbons. MOND, A. L. (Universal Oil Products Co.). May 20, 1942, No. 6882. [Class 2 (iii)] Branched chain paraffin hydrocarbons are obtained from straight chain or less branched aliphatic hydrocarbons which may contain a substantial proportion of straight chain olefins by heating the latter to 50-300‹C. in presence of a metal halide and an active olefin-hydrogenating catalyst comprising a reduced metal in presence of added hydrogen and a hydrogen halide. An inert carrier for the catalyst. The metal may be reduced nickel, copper, or zinc. Specification 535,054 is referred to.
