Abstract

575,650. Tractor draw-bars. RUSSELL'S (KIRBYMOORSIDE), Ltd., DOWKES, W. A., and RUSSELL, G. E. March 15, 1944, No. 4831. [Class 103 (v)] A tractor draw-bar comprises a substantially horizontal cross-bar 1 from the ends of which extend converging stays 6, 10, one pair 6 being disposed substantially horizontally and the other pair 10 being inclined upwardly, the cross-bar having an upstanding post 13 from the upper end of which extends a pair of diverging stays 14 disposed substantially horizontally. The several pairs of stays are arranged on the tractor side of the cross-bar and the free ends of the lower pair of horizontal stays and the free ends of the inclined stays are adapted to be secured to suitable parts of the tractor, while the free ends of the upper pair of horizontal stays are secured to the inclined stays or a suitable part of the tractor. As shown, the cross-bar 1 comprises horizontal bars 2, 3 spaced apart and provided with registering holes 5 along the length through any one of which a coupling pin can be inserted to secure the trailer coupling. A vertical T-section post 13 is secured to the centre of the bars and the upper end is connected by the stays 14 to the stays 10 or the tractor frame. The post 13 is provided with a coupling jaw 16 slidable on the post and secured in any position thereon by a pin passing through holes 17 in the jaw and 18 in the post. This coupling provides a separate or additional means for joining the trailer to the tractor.
