Abstract

Vinyl halide resins are stabilized by adding antimony potassium tartrate. The preferred amount of stabilizer is 0.2 to 10 per cent by weight. The resin may be plasticised. Specified resins are polyvinyl chloride, bromide or iodide, copolymers of a vinyl halide with a vinylidene halide, or a maleate, or a chloromaleate, or a fumarate, or a chlorofumarate, or an ester of another alpha, beta, unsaturated polycarboxylic acid, or vinyl acetate, or other vinyl ester, or styrene, or an acrylate, or a substituted acrylate. Typical examples are dimethyl, diethyl, dipropyl, dibutyl, diisobutyl, dihexyl, ditetrahydrofurfuryl and dibenzyl fumarates. In examples: (1) a vinyl chloride-diethyl fumarate copolymer plasticised with dibutyl sebacate, (2) a vinyl chloridevinylidene chloride copolymer and (3) a vinyl chloride-diethyl maleate copolymer are stabilized with antimony potassium tartrate.
