[Class 41] [Also in Group XIX] An electro-osmotic pump used in measuring permeability to fluid flow (see Group XIX) comprises a porous plug 141 (e.g., of aluminium oxide) placed in the circuit 42, 43 through which the fluid is to circulate. Thallium electrodes 142, 143 are situated one on each side of the plug and are connected to a current source 146 through an ammeter 147 which indicates rate of flow, this rate being controlled by a variable resistance 148. A thallium salt may be dissolved in the liquid being circulated.
