Abstract

[Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a converting arrangement of the vibrating switch type, use is made of a plurality of vibratory relays of the kind in which frequency varies with amplitude, one relay controlling the frequency of the others. In the arrangement shown, two relays VA, VB have their associated drive coils DA, DB so connected and arranged that the relays operate at the same frequency, but with a 90 degree phase displacement, the relay VB short-circuiting the drive coil DA when it is attracted by its own coil DB whilst the relay VA short-circuits the drive coil DB after release by short-circuiting of its drive coil DA. Thus, the two transformers TA, TB are energized with a 90 degree phase displacement and their outputs when rectified by rectifiers RA, RB overlap to produce a substantially steady D.C. Modifications in which the drive coils are energized through separate contacts associated with the vibratory elements, and in which the rectifiers RA, RB are replaced - by additional contacts on the relays are described.
