Abstract

573,650. Adjustable seats. WRIGHT, R. N. Dec. 16, 1943, No. 21088. [Class 52 (ii)] The under frame 31 of a seat is supported by crossbars 17, 18 engaging in slots 32 therein, the slots 32 allowing for horizontal sliding adjustment, the crossbars 17, 18 being vertically adjustable in vertical slots 16 in uprights 11 &c. to get vertical or tilting adjustment. One, or both, of the crossbars 17, 18 are adjusted up or down by moving them endwise against the pressure of springs 33 thereon so that cross pins 24, fixed in the crossbars, can be moved from one to another of notches or depressions 25 in the sides of the slots in the uprights 11 &c. The horizontal position is locked by projections 44 on a lever 43 carried by the ends of both crossbars 17, 18 the projections fitting into the required holes 45 in the sides of the frame 31, the lever 43 being movable outwards by hand against spring pressure to disengage. The axial movement of the crossbar 17, 18 to allow vertical or tilting adjustment may be effected by a hand lever 35 pivoted at 37 to a plate 38 secured to the crossbar 17. The plate is slotted at 39 to receive a pivot 36 on the crossbar 18. Movement of the lever 35 in one direction causes it to pivot about 36, the crossbar 18 being unable to move axially in one direction, whereby the pivot 37 is moved to one side carrying with it the plate 38 to which is attached the crossbar 17. Movement of the lever in the other direction causes the lever to pivot about 37 and as the crossbar 17 is unable to move axially in that direction, the crossbar 18 is moved axially to free the pins 24 from their depressions and allow vertical adjustment. In a modification the frame may be located below the floor of a vehicle, and the upright would be adjustable and be attached to the seat.
