Abstract

572,682. Wooden-soled footwear. ASHWORTH, R. Oct. 27, 1943, No. 17720. [Class 17 (ii)] A strip of leather or other material is secured by the nails 6 which secure the edge of an upper 3 to the sides of a wooden sole 2 and is afterwards doubled over and secured by adhesive to itself or the periphery of the sole to conceal the heads of the nails 6 and improve the waterproofness of the footwear. The edge of the sole 2 may be rebated to take the lower edge of the upper 4 only, or of the upper 4 and also one or both flaps 4, 5 of the folded strip. The outer flap 5 of the strip may be extended to the lower edge of the sole. To facilitate manipulation during assembly of the parts the flap 4 of the strip may be secured to the upper before the strip and upper are nailed to the sole.
