Abstract
572,320. Sliver balling apparatus. TEXTILE APPLIANCES, Ltd., and STALKER, A. J. Nov. 3, 1943,No. 18211. Addition to 545,859. [Class 120 (i)] In a roll forming or balling machine as described in the parent Specification means are provided to retract the partial side plates 100, 100a, Figs. 1 and.5, from the sides of the ball to facilitate its discharge, the side plates thereafter being returned to their ball-confining positions for the winding of a new ball. The side plates are slidingly mounted on guide rods 104, 104a eccentrically mounted in the machine frame and carrying sprocket wheels 120, 120a. One of the ball release control levers 6 is extended to project through the apertured end of a lever 122 to the two ends of which are connected the ends of a chain 124, Fig. 2, passing round the sprocket wheels 120, 120a. At the completion of balling the cams 20 actuate the levers 6 to retract the balling centres 5 and simultaneously operate the chain 124 thus rotating guide rods 104, 104a through the sprocket wheels 120, 120a and moving the side plates 100, 100a outwardly to facilitate discharge of the ball. Continued rotation of the cams 20 closes the balling centres 5 and returns the side plates to their normal position. In a modification the chain 124 is connected at one end only to the lever 122 the system being controlled by spring means or by a counterweight. The side plates are moved longitudinally on the guide rods 104, 104a through adjustable link pins 129, 129a connected to the arm 36 of the driving pressure roller 34 and extending through lugs on the side plates.
