Abstract

572,287. Animal traps. McDONALD. T. Feb. 24, 1944, No. 3433. [Class 5 (i)] A cage-trap is partitioned into open and closed compartments. The open section 1 contains a pivoted gangway 5 leading by way of an opening in the partition into a chamber 9 within the compartments '2, the floor of the chamber being pivoted. The inner end of the gangway 5 has a projection 6 passing through a slotted screen into contact with a pivoted cam 14 behind the lower edge of which the depressed projection locks until released by the tilting of the floor 10 of the lateral chamber. This lifts a counterweighted arm 11 against the cam allowing the projection 6 to rise and the gangway to be reset. In its tilted position the outer end of the gangway closes the entrance. A bolt 25 to retain it closed may be fitted. A baffle plate 22 prevents escape beneath the gangway. Bait suspended from a hook 12, or live bait within a closed section of the compartment 2 may be provided.
