Abstract
572,251. Catalytic dehydrogenation. SHELL DEVELOPMENT CO. Dec. 28, 1943, No. 21721. Convention date, Dec. 7, 1942. [Class 1 (i)] Aromatic hydrocarbons are obtained by dehydrogenating hydro aromatic hydrocarbons, preferably under 2-10 atmospheres pressure, using a catalyst comprising chromium oxide with an addition of 2.5-20 per cent. of a rare earth element and 6-30 per cent of potassium, rubidium, or caesium, or a mixture of potassium or sodium. The rare earth element is added in the form of oxide or a salt convertible into oxide. The alkali metal is preferably added as nitrate. The catalyst may be supported on alumina, particularly gamma alumina. Specification 540,022, [Group IV], is referred to.
