Abstract

570,467. Catalysts. SHELL DEVELOPMENT CO. Oct. 11, 1943, No. 16657. Convention date, July 27, 1942. [Class 1 (i)] A dehydrogenation catalyst suitable for the conversion of hydrocarbons is made by incorporating an alkaline earth metal oxide in an absorptive alumina and then incorporating a molecular excess (based on the alkaline earth) of molybdenum oxide. The base may be any form of alumina convertible into gamma alumina on heating. The alkaline earth compound is preferably nitrate or acetate; after impregnation with it the alumina is preferably heated to 600-900‹C. for 1-10 hours. After treatment with the molybdenum compound (e.g. ammonium molybdate) the catalyst is heated to 500-850‹C. The alkaline earth metal content is 1-5 per cent. and the molybdenum oxide content is 4-15 per cent.
