Abstract

572,172. Photographic shutters. KODAK, Ltd. Sept. 8, 1943, No. 14737. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1942. [Class 98 (i)] A shutter includes within the casing a master member having a pivotally-mounted gear segment meshing with pinions for operating pivoted blades and also includes a pivoted cover normally spring-biassed to cover the exposure aperture and adapted to be moved therefrom by the master member after it has moved a sufficient distance during its setting or tensioning operation to ensure the aperture being covered by the blades, the return of the cover on operation of the shutter to effect an exposure to its aperture-covering. position being retarded by retarding-means to enable the blades to complete the exposure. As shown, the exposure aperture 3 in the casing 1 is normally covered by a pair of disc-shaped blades 4, each mounted on a pivot 5 carrying a pinion 6 and provided with a circular or arcuate opening 7. A master member 8 pivoted at 9 and having a setting handle 11 and a gear segment 10 meshing with the pinions 6 is operable to effect an exposure by a spring 14. A shoulder 17 is engageable by the latch member 18 of a trigger 19 turned clockwise by the spring 21. On depressing the trigger 19, the master member is released to effect the exposure, an anti-rebound device being provided as in Specification 572,173. The pivoted cover 40 has a gear segment 42 meshing with a pinion 43 carried by a fly-wheel 44 mounted on a stud 45, and is normally held to cover the aperture 3 by a spring 47. The setting movement of handle 11 tensions the master member spring 14, returns the friction shoe 26 of the shock absorber to its initial position, and by lug 24 swings the cover 40 to uncover the aperture 3, which remains covered by the blades 4. On depressing trigger 19, the blades 4 move relatively slowly, but rapidly accelerate, and since the cover 40 is retarded by the fly-wheel, the aperture 3 is not covered until the exposure is made. A flash-lamp synchronizing mechanism is provided as described in Specification 572,174.
