Abstract
571,372. Refrigerating. GARVIE, J. Nov. 8,1943, No. 18555. [Class 29] [Also in Group XXIX] The compressor 57 of a condensing or non- condensing refrigerating system adapted for a domestic refrigerator (not shown) is driven by a water pressure engine 26 receiving its supply from town mains or like source, the exhaust from the engine being led through a casing 71 to cool or condense the compressed refrigerant in a coil 69. The water circuit through the engine is in a bye-pass to the main pipe 10, Fig. 2, delivering to the usual house cistern, and a valve 20 in the branch 14 leading to the engine is actuated by a thermal element 24 responsive to the temperature in the refrigerator to shut off the engine supply when the temperature is low and permit the water to flow on through a pipe 17 to the pipe 10 and the cistern. When the float valve of the cistern is shut the flow through the branch 14 is normally stopped, but a ball valve 78 located in the conduit 72 leading the engine exhaust back to the pipe 10 may be actuated by a thermal element 81 to allow the water to flow to a waste pipe 76 when the cistern is full. The liquid distributing valve of the engine comprises a sliding piston member 28, 29 actuated by water pressure on the ends of the valve rod 30 controlled by plunger members 43, 44 engaged by the engine piston 26 at the ends of its stroke.
