Abstract

571,263. Fuel containers for vehicles. SHAKESBY, L., MURRAY, E. A., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 27, 1943, No. 15793. Drawings to Specification. [Class 79 (iii)] A fuel container installation for a motor vehicle comprises at least one substantially flexible container accommodated beneath at least one mud-wing in such a position that when the wing is assembled on the vehicle, the container is located in the rear of the road wheel covered by the wing. A container may be fitted beneath each of the four wings or beneath the rear or front wings only and may rest on a detachable wire frame and be suspended by flaps or tabs co-operating with hooks on the wing or may be slung in position by straps. Each container is shaped to correspond to the space enclosed by the wing and is constructed by tailoring flexible, petrolimpervious material or flexible material coated and/or impregnated with a petrol-impervious substance. Each container may operate as a unit having its own filling orifice and outlet pipe feeding the engine or an ancillary reservoir or several containers may operate together as a unit. A filler cap or caps may be situated on the wing or wings.
