Abstract

A coating composition consisting of polymethyl methacrylate resin and a vinyl chloridevinyl acetate copolymer, dissolved in organic ketone solvents with a plasticizer for the resins consisting of glyceryl monolactate triacetate. Specified solvents are methyl-ethylketone and methyl-isobutyl-ketone. In an example, methyl-ethyl-ketone and methyl-isobutyl-ketone are mixed and heated to 50 DEG C. Polymethyl methacrylate and a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer are added and mixed to give a clear solution and then glyceryl monolactate triacetate added. The proportion of solvents and plasticizer may be varied to produce coatings of required viscosity. Aniline dyes may be added to produce coloured coatings. The coatings may be applied to metal or fabric by brushing, spraying or dipping either in hot or cold state.
