569,688. Turning. PAPWORTH, Ltd., NAPIER, W., THOMAS, W. G., and BLACKMORE, D. E. Aug. 9, 1943, No. 12846. [Class 83 (iii)] A vertical lathe turret B has six stations for axially-directed tools and a shank Q rotatable within bushes R, U, attached to a base L. Two diametrically-opposed cam surfaces on the face of the bush U co-operate with similar cams on a bush I secured to a handle H rotatable on the shank Q so that rotation of the handle in one direction will first cause the cams on bush I to ride off those on bush U to release the turret axially, whereupon further rotation will cause a spring plunger M on the handle to engage a tooth on a ratchet N keyed to the shank and thus rotate the turrent through 60 degrees, this next indexed position being determined by a spring plunger 109 engaging a radial tooth on a ratchet-like cam W keyed to the shank. Reverse rotation of the handle will first disengage the plunger M from the ratchet N and then cause the cams on bush I to ride up those on bush U to lock the turret axially against the face of bush R.
