569,680. Dampers. CAMPBELL, A. Nov. 12, 1943, No. 18853. Addition to 536,314. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] The sealing elements for sliding dampers described in the parent Specification are pressed against the edges of the damper by toggle mechanism or by cams. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the sealing element 11 engaging with the edge of a vertically sliding damper 6 is pressed inwardly by a bar 12 connected by toggle links 14 to the frame 9. The bar 12 moves downwardly under the action of gravity and may be assisted by the weight of the damper which is provided with a projection 16 engaging with the top of the bar 12 when the damper is near its closed position. The sealing element 11 has an inclined surface engaging with a correspondingly inclined surface on the damper edge to press the damper against a seating 25 on the frame. The sealing element also engages with grooves 13 having walls 26 inclined to correspond with the inclined surface of the sealing element 11. Fig. 3 shows a horizontally sliding damper 6 in which the sealing element 11 is pressed against the damper edge by a cam or cams 18 on a bar provided with a counterweighted lever 19.
