[Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] Regulating means for a plant comprising a turbine 11 driving compressors 1, 4 which supply a combustion chamber 14, feeding a turbine 16 giving external power, is obtained by controlling the quantity of compressed air byepassing a heat exchanger 9 through a pipe 20 leading to a heated-air inlet 21 for the turbine 11. Regulation is in accordance with the temperature of the gases in the inlet 21. Fuel supply through a pipe 27 may be regulated by pressure-responsive means open to the pipe 21. Part of the compressed air from a pipe 7 passes up a pipe 13 to the combustion chamber of the heat exchanger 9 and supplies the turbine 16 which is regulated separately from the turbine 11. The regulating device for the turbine 11 does not operate until the temperature of the gases in the inlet 21 exceeds the normal temperature. Air from a pipe 2 passes through L.P. and H.P. compressors 1, 4, with intercooler 3, and via tubes 5 in a heat recuperator 6,-heated by exhaust gases from the turbine 11, to the pipe 7. Air is also supplied by a compressor 17. Part of the air in 7 flows through spaces surrounding tubes 8, is heated and supplied to the turbine 11. Exhaust air from the turbine passes through the recuperator 6 'and a cooler 12 to the inlet 2. The quantity of air passing up pipe 20, valve 22, Fig. 2, is controlled by a thermostat 24 acting through links 30, 31 and a valve 32 which admits liquid under pressure from a pipe 43 to one side of a servo-piston 36 and relieves the other side. The thermostat comprises a container partly filled with liquid which will be under a varying evaporating pressure and causes the bellows 28 to expand or contract. A dashpot 34 and its piston, and springs 48, 50, act to restore the valve 32 to its central position when the gases in the pipe 21 are at a predetermined temperature. A fall in temperature in 21 causes a partial closing of the valve 39. In Fig. 3, the thermostat 24 acts on a pivoted lever 67 through a cam 52. Links 60 act on a beam 61 which actuates the valve 32 controlling the servomotor piston 36. Pressure in the pipe 21 acts on a piston 73 and regulates the fuel supply through the pipe 27. The valve 39 cannot be affected by the pressureregulating device 73.
