Abstract

An aggregate for use in the manufacture of concrete for production of precast or moulded blocks is prepared by firing a mixture of an argillaceous material with a sand to produce a clinker or particles having a cellular structure free from lime or alkalies. Preferably, white silica sand is employed, but natural or artificially coloured sands may be used. Firing is effected at 1200-3000 DEG F. according to the nature of the materials employed. The aggregate may be further treated by the process described in Specification 569,070. Specification 427,326 also is referred to.
