[Class 20 (i)] A prefabricated service unit for use in a dwelling-house, comprises a body with kitchen or bathroom service elements, e.g. gas cooker, refrigerator, &c. for a kitchen, or a bath, wash basin, &c. for a bathroom, at the front, and a compartment at the rear for pipes or conductors for gas, water or electricity. The service unit may combine kitchen and bathroom service elements, these being located on the two open sides of the unit, with an intervening compartment for the gas and water pipes &c. The unit is built on a frame of channel bars, Fig. 6, which. may be bolted or welded together, a' separate cradle 60, Fig. 7, being provided for the bath, the cradle being secured in the frame of the unit. The front of the unit accommodates kitchen service elements, such as cupboards 31, 33, 35, Fig. 2, a refrigerator 32, a housing 34 for a copper with heating means and a gas stove 36. A sink 37 is positioned in the top of the compartment 33, which may be formed integrally with a draining board 38 extending over the tops of adjacent elements. The taps 42 and drain from the sink are connected through the rear cover 22 of the compartment 28 to pipes in the intermediate compartment. A solid fuel combustion stove is mounted in a housing 45 at the left of the compartment 28, the front 48 of the stove facing the end of the unit, which may be disposed so as to form part of the wall of a living room. An air vent may be fitted in the housing 45, the vent being provided with a shutter controlled by a handle on the unit. An electric fan may also be disposed in an opening in the housing 45. The air vent and fan discharge into a trunk 54 surrounding the flue 49, and a separate trunk 55 removes the fumes from the gas stove and copper. Towel rails 56, shelves 57, plate racks 58 and a cupboard 59 may be provided. Fig. 1, which is a view of Fig. 2 turned anti-clockwise through 90 degrees, shows the bath service elements of the unit, these comprising a bath 61 with casing 63 which may incorporate a cupboard 66, a wash basin 71, also encased to form a cupboard 73, a W.C. 70 with flushing tank, and a cupboard 67. Access to the pipe system in the intermediate compartment is obtained through a removable panel 82. Louvres 79 are provided at one end of the unit for ventilation of this compartment. An airing cupboard 75 is provided, cold and hot water tanks and a compartment for gas and electricity meters also being housed in the unit. Electric lamps, preferably horizontal long type, are fitted in the unit.
