[Class 142 (ii)] [Also in Group XIX] A pick-counting device for a loom enables direct reading of the number of picks per unit of length of the fabric woven to be made. The device comprises a member operated or rotated at each pick, a counting and registering mechanism, means for coupling the member to the counting mechanism, and a member movable with the woven cloth or with a part of the loom moving at the same speed as the cloth and arranged to control the coupling means. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, a contact member 20 having pins 21 engaging the fabric upon the loom is arranged to bridge contact members 13, 14 of a circuit 12. The circuit 12 also contains a contact 30 secured to a shaft 32 which makes one revolution at each pick. The electromagnet 37 of the counting mechanism 10 is thus ener. gized at each pick only during the period that the contact member 20 engages the contact members 13, 14. In a modification, Fig. 19, a mechanical counting mechanism 43 is coupled by a clutch 44 to a shaft 42 rotated at each pick ; the clutch 44 is controlled by a lever 45 having an arm 51 of length corresponding to the unit of length of fabric. A member 54 having pins engaging the fabric has a projection 59 to engage the arm 51, so that the counting mechanism is clutched to the shaft 42 for a period corresponding to the weaving of the unit length of fabric. In another modification a mechanical counting mechanism such as 43 is combined with an electrical measuring device such as the contacts 20, 13, 14. The measuring device may be controlled by stops upon the fabric take-up roll instead of by the cloth itself, and the pins 21 may be replaced by adhesive material such as adhesive tape..
