Cloth a leaving an inspection board A rotates a measuring roller B which drives a counter C via gearing b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP> and a clutch b. The clutch b is controlled by an electromagnet and is disengaged if there is no cloth between the board A and a pivoted detecting arm e which operates a switch D in the circuit containing the electromagnet.
