568,798. Peeling potatoes &c. MEYER, J. May 3, 1943, No. 6951. Convention date, May 2, 1942. [Class 28 (ii)] A machine for peeling potatoes and the like comprises a skeleton container built up of spaced rings 7 below which are one or more shafts 3 carrying disc-shaped peeling tools 5 projecting through the spaces between the rings. The peeling tools 5 may consist of carborundum abraiding discs or of metal discs with rough surfaces, or of carborundum pegs arranged in star-shaped manner, or of rubber having emery on the surface. The spaced rings 7 are united by rods 8 passing through supports 9 projecting inwards from the rings. The rods and supports agitate the potatoes &c. as the drum rotates. The drum is rotated by contact with rollers 6 on the shafts 3 of the abraiding discs, the shafts being rotated by a motor 27 and belt 28. Water sprays are provided in the upper part of the casing. Filling and emptying doors 16, 17 are provided, and an outflow 19 leading to a screen box 20 and escape 22. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a machine wherein the abraiding discs instead of protruding into the drum are journalled within the drum and are driven by a fixed annular cogged wheel as the drum rotates. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
