Abstract

666,271. Potato &c. peeler. COLLINSON, E. March 22, 1950 [March 25, 1949], No. 8159/49. Class 28 (ii). [Also in Group VIII] A clothes washing machine of the power operated paddle type is convertible into a potato &c. peeler by fitting abrading devices inside, Fig. 1, or on top of the washer, Fig. 2, one abrader being stationary and the other being coupled to be driven from the paddle shaft or paddle. In Fig. 1 the oscillated paddle has been removed and replaced by a tubular casting 15 carrying a disc or conical abrading or grating surface 16a to support the potatoes against a fixed abrasive conical surface 18b of a stationary cylinder 18 which has been lowered into the container 11. Lugs 19 support 18 on the top rim of 11. A gap 22 between the fixed and oscillated abrading surfaces allows water 23 and peelings to fall down and exit through a drain 24. In Fig. 2 the peeler casing 27 is shaped to form an annular bottom trough 28 with drain hose 31. The abrading bottom cone 16 is driven by a hose coupling from its depending boss 25 to the top of the paddle 14.
