[Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XII] A modification of the auxiliary ring described in the parent Specification for retaining the electric furnace roof or cover and for supporting the electrodes comprises an upstanding portion 19, an inwardly directed portion 20 resting on the hearth 10 and an outwardly directed portion 21 arranged in a different horizontal plane to. the portion 20 which is engaged by the lifting piston 26 of a hydraulic jack 27 and also provides a support for the furnace electrodes 13 operated by a hydraulic jack 17 and attached to a slide 15 on the supporting member 16 attached to the auxiliary ring. The outwardly directed portion 21 may be arranged at a higher level than the inwardly directed portion and may form part of a hollow member of rectangular section.
