Abstract

567,218. Spraying- machines for orchards. RIPPER, W. E. July 15, 1943, No. 11549. [Class 69 (iii)] A vehicle for spraying orchards carries a number of continuously oscillated spray guns 5 mounted at varying angles on a rocking arm ' 19 and supplied with fluid pumped from a tank 1 when a pedal valve 11 is depressed. The vehicle has a group of such guns at each side under the control of an operator who sits on a seat 3 and is protected from the spraying fluid by glass screens with wipers (not shown). A paddle shaft 7 keeps the fluid mixed in the tank and also operates an eccentric disc 12 which, through push-rods 14, 17, operate the rocking head 19 against a returning spring 22. A slot 20 for the pivot of the rocker 19 allows adjustment of the rocking movement. A swivel lever 24 allows the whole spraying head to be rotated manually or mechanically in a horizontal plane. Multi-nozzle fog guns 29 are also provided. In Fig. 3, spraying heads 27 carrying long-distance spray guns 28 and fog guns 29, having no horizontal movement, but are rocked in a vertical plane by an adjustable-thrown crank 31 on the paddle shaft.
