566,105. Resistance measurements. RADIO GRAMOPHONE DEVELOPMENT CO., Ltd., MARRIOTT, C. F., and TAYLOR, D. H. J. Aug. 23, 1943, No. 13725. [Class 37] A Wheatstone bridge for determining whether a resistor is within the permitted tolerances above and below its nominal value is so arranged that the galvanometer always moves to one side to indicate that the resistor is within the tolerances and to the other side when the resistor has a value outside either of the tolerances. The standard arm BP contains a resistance Rs which is a close approximation to the nominal value of the resistance Rx to be tested. One comparison arm AP consists of a resistor R100 representing the nominal value. The other comparison arm AQ consists of a resistance r1 in series with either one of two branch parts, of which one contains a fixed resistance r2 and a variable resistance r3 and the other contains a variable resistance r4. The sum of the resistances r1, r2, r3 is equal to the resistance R100 plus the percentage tolerance, and the sum of the resistances r1, r4 is equal to R100 minus the percentage tolerance. A change-over switch CSW permits either of these values to be inserted in the arm AQ and is coupled with a reversing switch RSW through which D.C. is fed across the diagonal AB. With comparison arms of fixed values, a variable voltage supply may be employed so as to permit resistors of a large range of nominal values to be tested with the same sensitivity.-
