[Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group V] The invention is concerned with means for adjusting the lowermost position of a verticallyreciprocating plunger 40 while the plunger is moving. The plunger is reciprocated by a cam-operated lever 46 oscillating on a fixed shaft 42, the end of the lever having pivotally connected thereto one end of a link 47, the other end of which is pivotally connected to the plunger rod 45 by a driving pin 49. The pin 49 is pivotally connected to a link 54 pivotally connected to a pin 56 fixed on a lever 57 pivoted on a fixed pin 58. The pin 56 forms the centre of a circle of radius R, and on the circumference of this circle lies the fixed pin 58. The lowermost position of the plunger 40 is adjusted by pivoting the lever 57 about the fixed pin 58. Fig. 6 shows one position of the lever 57, the full lines showing the uppermost position of lever 46, link 47, pin 49 and link 54 and the chain-lines showing the. lowermost position of these members ; the stroke of the plunger is represented by a. Fig. 7 shows another position of the lever 57, the stroke b being less than the stroke a. The pin 49 always returns, at its acme, to a point in alignment with the fixed pin 58, the top of the stroke of the plunger being thus constant. The lever 57 is adjusted by means of a hand-operated screwed rod 61 pivoting on a pin 72, Fig. 3. At its nadir, the right-hand end of lever 46 rests on an abutment 30, whereby pressure from chamber 13 (see below) is not transmitted to cam 21 which operates the lever. The invention is described in connection with a machine for moulding and wrapping butter &c.
