564,404. Crushing-machines. ONIONS, J. H. May 13, 1943, No. 7610. [Class 59] A crushing-machine, more particularly for diamonds, comprises a reciprocating striker, an anvil arranged to be vibrated or oscillated, and a stop for the striker, the relative positions of the anvil and stop being adjustable so as to limit the movement of the striker towards the anvil to produce particles of a predetermined size which are delivered between a guard that surrounds the striker and is spaced therefrom to permit the passage only of particles not greater than the desired size. The striker 4 is operated by a cable 12 from a pulley 13 rotated intermittently and then released by a constantly rotating cage 19. The striker is provided with a collar 5 which engages a shoulder 8 to limit its downward movement towards the anvil 26 which is adjustable in a collar 28 oscillated by a connection 25 with a lever 23 operated from the cage. The diamonds are fed from a hopper 31 past a gate 33 operated from the striker and the bracket 3, which may be vertically adjustable, is fitted with an adjustable guard 36 between which and the anvil the broken particles escape into a shoot 35.
