Abstract

564,393. Catalysts. DISTILLERS CO., Ltd., and TUERCK, K. H. W. Feb. 15, 1943, No. 2485. [Class 1 (i)] A supported vanadium oxide catalyst is prepared by dissolving vanadium pentoxide in a solution of hydrogen peroxide, impregnating the carrier with the solution, and subsequently removing the volatile constituent. Other catalytic metals may also be incorporated by dissolving their vanadates in the hydrogen peroxide solution. The solvent for the hydrogen peroxide may be water and/or an organic solvent, e.g. tertiary butanol. Specified carriers are silicates, zeolites, silica gel, alumina, pumice, metal oxides, asbestos, clay, porcelain, fuller's earth, carborundum, alkaline earth carbonates, carbon, and surface-oxidized metals. A powdered carrier may be agglomerated by means of the solution and subsequently moulded.
