[Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] The cylinder of a fluid-pressure servo-motor for operating vehicle brakes, clutches and the like, comprises a barrel part formed by coiled or laminated fibrous material impregnated with synthetic resin or plastic substance and two cylinder ends, one of which may be integral with the barrel, secured together by longitudinal tie-bolts, extending outside the barrel. The barrel a of the pressure cylinder shown is formed of one or more lengths of linen, hessian, cotton twill, paper or other fibrous material impregnated with the plastic substance and wound or laminated around a former, moulded under pressure, removed and cut to length if necessary. Metal end parts b, c are secured to the barrel by tie-bolts d arranged externally of the barrel and passing through bosses on the end parts. The end b is provided with radial ribs b<3> and a dust-excluding filter f. A boss c<2> on the end c mav have a threaded-hole for attaching the cylinders. The piston e may comprise a light metal plate or casting fitted with a packing ring e<3>. In the case of a vacuum cylinder, instead of the end c being flanged as at c<1> to receive the barrel, both the ends are shouldered as at b<1> to enter the barrel and thus to support it against the external pressure. One of the ends may be formed of the plastic substance and be made integral with the barrel, an extended part of which may be folded inwards to act as a core or reinforcement of the end.
