[Class 20 (i)] A method of constructing silos with storage compartments comprises building up the walls of the compartments from precast plates of reinforced concrete and uniting the plates by columns cast in situ between the shaped ends of the plates which form shuttering. The silo comprises compartment spaces 1 with coned outlets 6 leading to discharge shoots 5, and feeding spaces 4 over the compartments. In one form, Fig. 2, the spaces are rectangular in plan and the ends of the slabs 7 forming the walls are shaped so that adjacent slabs form spaces between their edges into which in situ concrete pillars 9 are cast. For an outer wall where only two or three edges meet, separate precast strips 10, 11 of concrete are used as closures. For polygonal-shaped compartments, triangular-shaped spaces are formed by the meeting edges of the slabs for the casting of the pillars. The pillars are cast in successive portions after the slabs have been superposed to form a portion of the height of the wall at each step. For an outer wall, Fig. 4, the slabs are formed with joggled joints 12, 13 with spaces 14 between, while for a partition wall, Fig. 5, the edges abut and are pin jointed by pins 15; in both cases, however, the lower edges of the slabs 7 are wider than the upper edges, so that no shelves are formed on which the material stored can rest.
