563,099. Repeater systems. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. April 16, 1943, No. 6136. Convention date, April 18, 1942. [Class 40 (iv)] The gain-frequency curve A of a stabilized feed-back amplifier matches the lossfrequency curve C of the section of submarine cable with which it is associated at or near the limits of the frequency band to be transmitted, but is slightly above it over the main portion of the band when the tubes are new. By this means the matching improves as the tubes age for the first part of their life. The amplifiers are fed with power over the transmission line, the power currents being separated at the repeater by a constant resistance bridge 45, 46, 47. All the repeaters in the cable may be alike, or some may compensate for the accumulated distortion of the preceding cable and repeaters.
