Abstract
562,421. Drawing wire. BARRON, C. A., and BARRON, H. D. March 4, 1943, No. 3573. [Class 83 (iv)] A wire-drawing machine, of the type having a drum rotating about a vertical axis, has the upper part a<1> of the lid constructed as a trough contairiing lubricant kept at a constant height by an overflow pipe g delivering to a sump a<2> whence a 'pump supplies one or more nozzles h discharging-on to the drum c as coolant drained into the trough a<1>. A loose pulley b below and coaxial with the drum guides the wire through the trough before reaching the die mounted at f. A subsidiary trough a<3> connected to the trough a<1> having a separate drainage pipe a<4> is filled with material such.as loofah to scrub and clean the wire before it enters the main trough. The'chamber a<5> acts as lubricating bath for the helical driving gears i. A hand wheel formed with clutch teeth n, normally maintained disengaged by a spring p, provides for rotating the drum during threading of the die.
