Abstract

562,357. Ink - ribbon mechanism. ROYAL TYPEWRITER CO., Inc. Feb. 24, 1943, No. 3051. Convention date, May 6, 1942. [Class 100 (iv)] Ribbon spools for typewriters &c. are formed of metal hubs and sides of plastic material., or material with a fibrous base, a preferred material being a laminated phenol formaldehyde plastic material. The end plates C, D, Figs. I, 2, are formed of the non-metallic material and are mounted on a metal hub A and metal core B, a metal plate E on which is mounted a ribbonreversing lever 15 being secured to the plate D. The hub A is connected to the plates E, C by swaging, and the core B is secured to the plates by bent ears 2. The lever 15 is mounted in bent ears 11, 13 formed in the plate E, and a spring 16 tends to move the lever to a position in which it actuates reversing mechanism, but normally the lever 15 is maintained inactive by the wound spool. In a modification, Fig. 4, adapted for portable typewriters, the plate E is replaced by a smaller plate I formed with holes 26, which extend also through the non- metallic plate H, for receiving a driving-pin of the ribbon feed mechanism.
