562,032. Piezo-electric crystal holders. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and COCKERELL, C. S. Nov. 10, 1942, No. 15885. [Class 40 (v)] A holder for a piezo-electric crystal comprises an insulating box having a removable lid l and bottom cover bc. A crystal plate cr rests on a lower pin lpi of the form shown in Fig. 7. The pin is inserted in opposite holes in the side walls of the box, lateral movement being prevented by the engagement of a pin pi in one side wall engaging a groove 8 in the pin lpi. Raised parts 3 and 5 of the pin engage the crystal at the points along a nodal line, while a part 10 extends from the casing and serves as a connecting tag. An upper pin upi of the form shown in Fig. 8 is guided in slots sl in the box walls and rests on the upper face of the crystal, so that raised parts III and V engage the crystal at points opposite to the parts 3 and 5 of the lower pin. A hairpin spring hps has its free ends inserted in holes sc in an end wall of the box, while its limbs rest on the parts II, VI of the upper pin. Closing the lid l bends the hairpin spring down so as to exert pressure on the upper pin upi, and the end of the hairpin spring engages a washer mw on a terminal screw scr. The bottom cover mav now be removed to check the exact position of the crystal by means of a gauge, Fig. 10 (not shown). The cover is replaced and all joints and orifices closed with a sealing compound.
