Abstract
561,445. Carbonising retorts. HANDASYDE, E. S. Jan. 29, 1943, No. 1514. [Classes 51 (ii) and 55 (i)] In a carbonizing retort of the kind in which the material is caused to pass through the retort by rotating annular plates P from each of which the material is removed by scrapers N and is directed to the plate below by a funnel V, the funnels, plates and shaft K are carried on a frame R so that they can be readily removable from the retort. The frame R is carried by a top plate T which is secured to a flange E of the retort wall U by bolts which are withdrawn when the internal fittings are to be re moved. The residue is dis charged through an opening 34 near the bottom of a tube 25, ar apertured sleeve 70 rotatable or the tube controlling the discharge opening, the downward move ment of the residue being assisted by the rotating shaft K.
