[Class 135] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] A flexible valve 9 controls first-stage compressor outlet ports 6 and forms a packing gland for the fixed tubular piston rod 5 of the secondstage. The valve is pressed against a shaped retaining ring 10 on the down stroke of the first-stage piston 1, and its shape is thus restored or maintained ; on the up stroke it is pressed against the seat 8a closing the ports 6. A metal ring 11 may bind the mid-portion of the valve, increasing its rigidity.
