Abstract
560,600. Magnesium oxide. AMERICAN ZINC, LEAD, & SMELTING CO. June 23, 1942, No. 8609. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1941. Drawings to Specification. [Class 1 (iii)] Dolomite is calcined to convert the magnesium content to oxide, the calcine is suspended in - water and carbonated with carbon dioxide evolved in the cycle, the magnesium bicarbonate in solution is filtered off from the calcium carbonate and agitated under reduced pressure to precipitate ;magnesium carbonate, and this is ,dried and lightly calcined, the carbon dioxide being recycled. The filtrate may be used for suspending the dolomite calcine, or it may be treated with dolomite calcine to combine with its carbon dioxide content and the resulting slurry returned for calcination.
