Abstract

560,224. Carbonates. OCEAN SALTS (PRODUCTS), Ltd., and ADAMS, B. A. March 16, 1942, No. 3429. [Class 1 (ii)] Carbonate or bicarbonate solutions of usable concentration are obtained starting from dilute alkaline solutions containing alkali or ammonium ions by the combination of steps comprising contacting the dilute solution with a cation exchange material having exchangeable hydrogen ions and capable of selectively adsorbing cations associated with anions yielding an alkaline reaction and then contacting the material, so charged with the cations of the dilute solution, with carbon dioxide or a bicarbonate or a mixture thereof to give an effluent solution of greater concentration of the carbonates or bicarbonates of the alkali or ammonium ions.
