Abstract

560,163. Angular bending. BOLTON & SONS Ltd., T., and BERRISFORD, S. Feb. 3, 1941, No. 1378. [Class 83 (iv)] Bars or strips 1 are fed one by one to tools for bending them into rings by means of a guide 2, down which they gravitate until they reach a stop 3, and a reciprocating plunger 4 which displaces them axially. The bars 1 may be of copper, have chamfered ends, and be fed tangentially to a die 7, Fig. 4, containing a mandrel 8, rotated by gears 14 and a key 12, so that its jaws 9 grip a bar 1 and draw into the die to form a ring. The driving shaft 17 carries a cam 16, which moves the shaft 11 and mandrel 8 down against a spring 15 to discharge the formed ring, and a chain wheel 18, which drives a chain 19, wheel 20, crank disc 6, and link 5 to reciprocate the plunger 4.
