Abstract
492,580. Making springs. TORRING- TON MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 7, 1938, No. 529. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1937. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In a machine for severing and bending the end of a spring to the shape shown in Fig. 9, four dies mounted on a conical head are successively advanced in radial guides by cams which surround the wire holding means. A die 31 is moved to the position shown in Fig. 5, and a die 32 then shears the wire against a guide 28 and co-operates with the die 31 to bend the tail S<1>. The die 31 remains in position and a die 34 is advanced to engage the wire and a die 33 is moved to bend the spring end about the die 34, Fig. 8. The dies are carried in a radial guide in a head 9 angularly adjustable in a casing 3 which is vertically adjustable in a frame 2 by screws 6. The dies are reciprocated by cams 18, 19, 20, 21 on a member rotated from a power drive 23. Each cam actuates a crank 43 on a shaft 41 carrying a crank 40 engaging a slide 38. The dies are adjusted in the slides by screws 47.
