[Class 78 (v)] A fairlead for a cable 6 leaving a ship comprises a plurality of parallel supporting rollers 2 disposed with their axes along and spaced around an imaginary horizontal cylinder of relatively large diameter and laterally-guiding radial rollers 7 carried by arms 10 on a partcylindrical supporting member 9. The stem of the ship is fitted with a pair of platforms 1 having downwardly diverging opposite walls and frames 3 for the rollers 2. The fairlead may also include shorter upper rollers 4 carried by frames 5, and outwardly-curved guard plates 8. The rollers 2, 4 may be divided into short lengths and be supported underneath by small additional rollers carried by the member 9.
