967,813. Measuring and adjusting tension in lift cables. DEMAG A. G. Dec. 9, 1960 [Dec. 31, 1959], No. 42568/60. Heading G1W. A multiple cable lift installation has means for measuring the tension in each cable and means for adjusting the length of each cable comprising a first member secured to an upper cable a second member secured to a lower cable,the first and second member being capable of telescopic movement with means for locking the members together in a number of positions and an hydraulic jack for moving the first member relatively to the second member the jack being connected to a pump and pressure gauge. As shown in Fig. 2, a hydraulic load cell 23, is placed on a block 13 carried by slotted fish-plates 15 of the upper part of an intermediate linkage in a rope of a multiple-rope system. Oil is supplied to the load cell 23, via inlet 3 and a pipe 16,from a hand pump or jack 17, whereby a block 14 is raised and with it a pin 11 which carries the fish-plates 10 supporting a lower portion of the rope assembly. When pin 11 just begins to rise, in slots 15a of the fish plates 15,the gauge 18 indicates the tension of the rope. The load-cell may be used as jack to re-adjust the relative positions of the fish-plates 15. The top of the load cell is arranged to rise by a predetermined amount corresponding to the separation of the bearing-pin holes in the fish-plates.
