Abstract

559,896. Centrifugal separators. BOWERY, S. E. Sept. 7, 1942, No. 12584. [Class 23] [Also in Group XIII] A rotary drum 1 contains disc-shaped partitions 3, Fig. 1, forming annular spaces 5 which are so connected by cross passages 10 as to direct fluids of different temperatures into alternate spaces. One of the fluids enters and leaves through central hollow spindles 6. communicating with the annular spaces, and the other fluid enters and leaves through surrounding spindles communicating with the drum. Radial plates 16, Fig. 4, in a rotary drum form alternate radial spaces for the two fluids. The outer ends of the plates may be closed by readily removable curved bars 26 or by a sealing liquid or fusible solid.
